Apartment Tour

So I did the video apartment tour this morning. It's just under 2 minutes and doesn't have sound if you want to check it out. It's my first real attempt at making a useful video so I hope I don't make any viewers seasick! :)




And really, how does YouTube pick the cover image of the video? The one on this one is just silly. You'd think it'd be the first image, right?

Apartment

So I took a whole bunch of photos of the apartment this morning. And they're all blurry. I guess I should try taking pictures with the flash on and NOT at 6am. I wasn't totally awake. :)

There were also a LOT of pics so I think I'm going to try a walking tour of the place this evening--it might be easier to tell where everything is.

So I leave you with the newest Sadie photo. She followed me around and was in about 50% of the pictures I took this morning so I had to stop and take a portrait of her lounging on the bed. You can't see here, but her back legs are all splayed out behind her and the blanket she's laying on is (fake) fur. Spoiled little princess, I think.

Moving is Fun

Ah moving. What a FUN process, huh?

It actually went really well. The movers showed up around 8:30 (30-minutes late) and proceeded to pack up all of my stuff in under an hour. And I have a LOT of stuff. We then went to Bob's place, loaded up his stuff (minus the cats) and then headed to the new place. After figuring out how to open the (already unlocked) garage door, they uploaded all of our stuff and were on there way.

Total time: about 3 hours. Incredible. My movers are the BEST.

Bob and I made a couple more trips to his place to clean up a bit and pick up the cats and some odds and ends. The cats were NOT PLEASED with the move. Marbles glared at us from the bathroom sink.

While Jinx scared the bejeezes out of us by opening up a cabinet (talented!) and hiding under the sink. Who knew cats could open doors?
We've now been in the new place for a few days and are mostly unpacked. The pictures are from Saturday morning so I'll have to take some newer ones soon. Since these pictures were taken we've been to IKEA and gotten rid of more stuff.

Side note: it's amazing to me how much stuff I can get rid of AFTER I move. Wouldn't it be easier to not move the stuff in the first place???

So, here's the kitchen. Notice the pot rack! Wee! I love the pot-rack. I'm fairly certain there's a cat on the counter as well. The cats and the dog are learning to like each other, but for now they hide on window sills, under chairs, and on the kitchen counter.

This mess is the main bedroom, pre-dresser. There's a huge closet, which is nice. Especially now that I have to share!
Here's the front room. Yes I own pink fuzzy slippers and a stuffed dog. Both of which are hiding in the back of the closet by now.
And here's the second bedroom, otherwise known as Sadie's room. Until the animals all get along, Sadie spends a good amount of time here. Hopefully they'll all be able to be out at night together soon since she has to be caged during the day as well. That's a lot of time to be trapped up into one place.
And there's the mini-tour! We're getting close to putting it all away and have been exhausted for the last few days, but it's totally worth it. The new place is FAB. :)

Life Update

What have I been doing? Well, I've been packing. And packing. And packing some more.

I have a lot of stuff.

Bob and I are moving tomorrow into our new apartment (hurrah!) and for the last few weeks I've been trying to gather up all of my stuff, reminiscing about things that I have found in the corners, and cursing the remainder of the things. It's amazing how much stuff just comes out of the depths of an apartment when you have to put it all in boxes. I KNOW I have a lot of things, but after moving 2 times in the last two years, you'd think I would have gotten rid of some stuff. Apparently that's not the case.

So here is (almost) all of my belongings. That stack goes back about four boxes. And they're about three wide, and four high...so...a lot of boxes (48 boxes????? really?). It's reached the point now that I'm packing in garbage bags. CLASSY!
Thank goodness I have movers. :)

Edit: Yay! I get to remove my little countdown meter from the right column! It's been up there since January when I first started counting down. And my desk-side countdown post-it can be thrown out too. The first post-it note started at 125 days or something. It's so exciting to be down to one day!

New Apartment!

I have a new apartment! Bob and I signed a lease for a great place in Wicker Park and I'm totally excited.

It's so pretty!

We're moving 3 weeks from tomorrow. Much to do!

(Oh, and there's a pot rack in the kitchen. I'm weirdly really excited for this...)

Apartment Tour 2--The Room with No Name

I realized this morning that I haven't posted any pictures of the rest of my apartment. Unfortunately, it's now "lived in" and isn't as neat as I'd like. But I figured I'd share a little more.

This next room is the first room that you see when you enter in the front door. We're not sure what to do with it, so right now it's like an alternate family room with no TV. I've put my couch (it's free to anyone that wants it), my chair, and my bookcase in here. This is the view when you enter the apartment. Well, kind of. The first thing you see is my chewed up blue couch, but since I'm trying to get rid of it, it's not featured prominently here. I DID take this photo with my back against the front door, though.

A couple of close-ups on my bookcase. I think I need to update my nephew's pictures...these are both at least a year old! Jack's on the left, then Ben, then a family picture from a couple of weeks ago (Dad's side) and a picture of me and 3 of my friends in Toronto a few years ago. And apparently a wax/candle stain. Oops.

This is Sadie's treat jar. Every time we come in from a walk and I take her leash off, she'll run to the jar, nose it, and then sit and look at me until I give her a treat.

Here's another angle on the room...and I just noticed that Sadie got in the picture. Silly dog. You can see 1 of the 2 boxes I have left to unpack on the couch and my framed photos that I still need to hang.

Here's my front door. And another picture to hang (this one's from the Van Gough museum in Amsterdam. Although it's french. Ah, well). I also plan on hanging Sadie's leash hook here as well (I tried to once already but I need to use a screw instead of a nail).

This boring picture is of the ONE closet in the whole apartment. It's just between my bedroom door (on the right) and the front door (on the left). T and I decided to use it as a communal closet for coats, boots, random storage, and things like the vacuum cleaner. I took a photo of the inside but...yawn. No need for anyone to see that.

Lastly, here's a picture of Sadie. Just because. Beware of her one devil eye!!

Apartment Tour--the Bedroom

I was going to post just a few pictures of my new place in one post, but as it's taking a while to finish up the apartment, I've decided to do this room by room. The first room that I've (almost) finished is my bedroom.

When you walk into the apartment, you enter an office/family room/extra sitting space room. Off that room, to the left, is the doorway to my bedroom:

The main space is pretty sparse since I was able to store much of my stuff in my (substantial closet). And there are no pictures on the wall yet, but that'll come as well. This view shows my bed, endtable, a portion of the bay windows and the blanket that Miss Sadie sleeps on during the day. She's taken to sleeping on the bed at night. This is new with this place...I think it's because we don't have any rugs in this apartment and she likes to sprall out.

On the opposite wall of my bed is my dresser, TV, and the doorway to my closet. The closet isn't done yet, so don't look at that portion of the picture :)

Most of these little travel things are from my mom. She's a big traveler and always asks me what I'd like as a souvinier. I usually say something wacked like "a giraffe" or "a toucan". And she delivers--I have both a giraffe from Africa and a Toucan (2, actually) from Costa Rica. The only travel-y things that I bought is the blue fish from Cozumel and the Trolly from San Francisco. In the middle is a music box my sister got me from Austria that plays Edlewiess. It's so pretty. I hide my treasures in there!

Lastly, here is a view out of my bedroom windows, looking down Stave. These windows face a bright blinking blue police light and camera, so 24-hours a day I have a mini strobe light in my bedroom. It's easily ignorable during the day (you can barely tell it's flashing) but at night, I could host a rave. Luckily, I'm an easy sleeper so both that and the el that's close by don't disturb me. This picture was taken on the dark side of the blue flash. If I knew how to make gifs, I'd totaly make a little video of the flashing. I might do an easy one and post it on You Tube just so you all can see it. :)
