Yeah, There's No Snow

But there's another snow advisory for today. Good timing! I hope this one passes over as well.

Happy New Year Everyone!

It's Snowing

It's been snowing for about 6 hours now and we're supposed to get 5 inches. I can't tell what's accumulated thus far, but there's snow on the grass and on the roofs of buildings in the loop. I imagine that the walk to the el tonight is going to be a slippery one.

This isn't the best picture of the snowstorm but it's hard to get a good view from the office. I'll try to get some good pictures of the resulting snow this weekend.

Happy Friday!

Post-Holiday Re-cap

I spent the day yesterday alternating between playing my new Wii (!!!) and my PSP (!!!). Tough day. I was totally spoiled this Christmas. And my Wii injuries are starting to heal. It's kind of sad when you're sore from playing video games. :) Luckily my sore shoulder is better so I must be getting "stronger". But now I have sore thumbs from the PSP. Alas, the troubles of a video-game addict.

Sadie spent the day recovering from playing non-stop with Dakota for 5 days by sleeping. ALL DAY. Like, noon until 10pm, and then through the night. And I had to wake her up in the morning to go out. Little girl was tuckered out.
She loves her new toys though.

7 Days Until Christmas

And I'm almost done with my shopping.

Not my Christmas cards though. I think it's time I just shift over to "Happy New Year" cards since I don't get them out before Christmas very often.

In other holiday fun, go elf yourself (note: very slow program but a lot of fun!)

Or, for more snarky (and not as kid-friendly) holiday fare, check out this "recap" of the classic Rudolph tale.

Happy Holidays!

12 of 12 December 2007

12 of 12 for December is here! I forgot until I was checking Bloglines, so I missed part of my morning. Good thing Chad gives us reminders! Go here to get details.

8:58am: My desk. Checking out bloglines and getting the reminder that today was the 12th (it's the day after my company holiday party so you have to forgive my forgetfulness. It was a...slow morning).

9:06am: It's icy and snowy outside these days so I wore my snow boots to work today.

9:20am: Did some more tagging on Flickr to my photos from my recent trip to Munich.

10:26am: A new book that I worked on it out! Hurrah! After 16 months of work it's always good to see the final product.

2:32pm: At my desk. Going through my mail and remembering I have to send out my holiday cards--I'm running out of time!

5:43pm: I had to run some errands in the loop tonight and passed by the Christkindlmarkt at Daley Plaza. The tree this year is HUGE.

6:36pm: I'm setting up my tree tonight. I had put the branches in a few days ago but didn't have the energy to deal with the lights so I'm tackling the rest of it this evening.

6:38pm: I found Sadie's Christmas scarf in the box of holiday goodies and made her try it on.

7:23pm: All done!

7:24pm: My newest ornament. My mom got him for me in Germany (that's a HB beer in his hand!)

8:20pm: I watched the finale of America's Next Top Model. Eh. Kind of boring and predictable.

8:33pm: Sadie chilled out beside me for a while watching TV and enjoying the Christmas tree.

Go here to check out other 12 of 12ers in December!

Phone Update

So I didn't lose it. I just dropped it before I left for work. It doesn't work so well though. I hope I can make it until my contract expires in March.

I leave for Germany in 3 days. Um...yeah. Ack!

Sigh

So I think I've lost my phone. Ugh.

It's been a fairly unpleasant day.

I'll be at the bar later, trying to salvage my Friday.

Germany

So I'm leaving for Germany one week from today. And I've done close to nothing to prepare--other than buying a guide book, I haven't done anything and have nothing ready. I haven't even checked to make sure I didn't lose my passport since May. (I'm sure I haven't)

You'd think that I'd be more worried or stressed about what I have to do before next week, but...eh. :) It'll be fine.

I'm more stressed about what to buy people for Christmas.

This year, everyone gets leiderhosen.

edit: BAH! TYPOS! What's my job?

12 of 12 November

After last month's camera breakage, it was nice to actually complete a 12 of 12 this month! Although I did forget until after I got to work... Go here to check out the details of Chad's fabulous idea.

8:48am: My desk. While trolling around the web I found a video of Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana". Awesome

10:29am: Office bathroom. Found my first gray hair. Fabulous.

12:09pm: My desk. Remembered right before heading to the post office that it's closed. I'm glad I didn't get all the way there!

2:57pm: My desk. Just got off the phone after an hour teleconference. Lots of notes for work to be done.

4:49pm: The office. Not quite 5pm and it's already pretty dark in Chicago. Ah. Winter. (and I'm crooked, not the buildings)
5:31pm: Clinton El stop. Train's coming.

5:32pm: Blue line el. The train's pretty empty today because of the holiday.

6:08pm: My street. Took Sadie for a walk and checked on Bob's car. It's still there, safe and sound.

7:20pm: Bedroom. Settled in to watch some Nip/Tuck

7:35pm: My kitchen. I realized I had no lunch options for the morning so I decided to make some baked mac and cheese before watching Nip/Tuck.

8:01pm: My bedroom. Sadie got a rawhide while I watched TV.

8:59pm: Kitchen. Mac & Cheese is done! Now I have lunch for a couple days.

That's it! Fun Monday events in Chicago. :)

Aw, Hell

I just found my first gray hair.

Ugh.

It was unceremoniously yanked from my head and disposed of never to be spoken of again.

Boo!

Drunk Elephants on Parade

This is crazy. Can you imagine this happening in Chicago? I bet Bruckheimer could totally do a movie about this (as long as there were at least 13 car chases and 54 explosions. And probably a plane crash). And try to ignore the Paris part. I do.

Paris was horrified to hear that 40 squiffy elephants fought with an electric pole in the West Garo Hills district last week, which instantly electrocuted six of the blotto beasts.

So the hotel heiress is launching a campaign to encourage locals to hide their vats of home-made brew from the grey inebriates, who have started to search for the free alcohol for their benders. Of last week's jumbo deaths, Paris said: "There would have been more casualties if the villagers hadn't chased them away.

"And four elephants died in a similar way three years ago. It is just so sad. The biggest problems are in Assam and Meghalaya. The elephants get drunk all the time. It is becoming really dangerous. We need to stop making alcohol available to them."

Halloween

I hope everyone had a fun Halloween. I dressed up my poor dog in her Halloween sweater (it has a ghost on it!) and handed out candy to the kids that came by. Most of them were high school students still wearing their school uniforms, but whatever. It took all of 15 minutes to get rid of my candy.

Then I went to bed at 9pm. My crazy, city-livin' life! Be jealous!

Pictures

So I added a bunch of photos to my flickr site today (totally procrastinating at work, obviously).

I have to advise not looking at photos of friends while listening to sappy music because it's getting me all verklempt.

Or it could be that I'm 1) wearing BROWN and 2) wearing my glasses. It's totally throwing me for a loop.

Britney's Live

It seems fitting that my 100th post is on Miss Britney, doesn't it?

Anyhoo, her album's streaming online now. Take a listen. You know you're curious...

Cracker Jack

Didn't the cracker jack prizes use to be much better? I just got a piece of paper with 2 science "facts" on it. Ooo. Fun.

I want my plastic boat that drives around when you add baking soda!

I guess I'll have to be happy knowing that there are over 1 billion bicycles in the world and that it takes a venus flytrap 10 days to digest an insect. (which...ew)

Camping!!

Last weekend a group of us went camping up in Wisconsin for two nights. After some struggles packing the car (camping requires more supplies than you'd think), we made it on the road and were up to the campsite by 5:30 or so. The place was great and the area was beautiful--lots of orange and yellow leaves.

Saturday a few of us went to New Glarus to the New Glarus Brewing Company. Had some Spotted Cow, Fat Squirrel, and a cherry beer that tasted like cherry pie filling.

Most of the weekend consisted of sitting around the campfire and just ch
illing out. It was a great weekend. Now I have to do laundry because all of my clothes smell like campfire. As does Sadie, I'm sure. (she got to go with and was very well behaved. Pretty much.)

Oh, and I shotgunned a beer for the first time. Good for me. (it was awesome)
